Pressure Tank Service
Pressure Tank Repair & Replacement in Northern California
Fluctuating pressure? Pump turning on every time you flush? A failing pressure tank is the most overlooked cause of water system problems — and the most common reason pumps burn out early. We diagnose, repair, and replace pressure tanks across the SF Bay Area.
What a Pressure Tank Does
Your pressure tank stores a volume of pressurized water so your pump doesn't have to turn on every time you open a faucet. Inside the tank, a rubber bladder separates compressed air from water. When the air charge is correct, the pump runs in long, efficient cycles. When it's not, the pump short-cycles — and that's where problems start.
Signs Your Pressure Tank Is Failing
- Pump turns on and off rapidly when water is running (short-cycling)
- Pressure gauge bounces or fluctuates wildly
- No water pressure for a few seconds when you first open a tap
- Tank feels full of water when you tap it (waterlogged bladder)
- Spitting or sputtering at the faucet
- Pump runs constantly even with no water being used
Short-cycling is an emergency for your pump.
Every rapid start draws a surge of current and generates heat. A pump that short-cycles for days can fail when a simple tank replacement would have saved it. If you hear your pump clicking on and off rapidly, call right away.
Repair or Replace?
Sometimes the tank itself is fine but the air charge just needs resetting — a quick fix. Other times the bladder has ruptured and the tank is waterlogged, which means replacement. We test the air charge, check the bladder, inspect the pressure switch settings, and tell you honestly which makes sense. If replacement is needed, we size the new tank to your pump's output for optimal cycle times.
